Category : Drawings, Photography

Ive seen good photographs and ive seen good illusrations….. i guess this guy takes the cake for managing to make me do a double take whilst trying to understand his workflow into his artwork AND make me go wow at the same time. His name is Michael Oswald and these are his photomanipulations.

More of his work and some before and after shots after the jump

Check out his site here to see more of his Professional Image Retouching. (and of course, more “before and after goodness”

When asked to describe his style, this is what he has to say,

“My style is best described as ‘photo-manipulation on steroids’ combining unique Photoshop techniques and digital painting. With the exception of the original digital photograph, my work is created entirely on a computer utilizing my knowledge of digital techniques and the traditional art skills I learned in my younger days.”

Here are some excerpts from a F.A.Q found on his site. read more at his website here

How long does it take you to create an image?
Typically in-between 2 and 4 days. There have been occasions when I’ve been able to finish an image in only one day but I like to sleep on it for at least one night.

Do you take the reference photos yourself?
These days, yes. I got my start using stock from various websites but I got tired of the copyright issues. Now, the photography portion of my work is the most enjoyable.

Where do you come up with your ideas/what inspires you?
Real life mostly. I consider the ‘concept’ to be the best part of my work so I put a lot of thought into it and I try not to hold back from expressing myself.
